SMASH - A project for NZ Civil Defence

This project was commissioned by the Ministry of Civil Defence to provide fast notification of significant earthquakes.

The PC is programmed to collect data via a SCSI bus shared by the EARSS storage processor, to store event data on magnetic-optical disk for archival purposes, and (for sufficiently large events) to dial up the Wellington mainframe and transmit the waveform data.

A real-time multitasking operating system OS9000 was adopted and the software coded in about 6000 lines of 'C' .
